Note
Full figure, in profile, facing left. He sits reading a book propped on his walking stick with his right hand. His left hand rests on his knee. His sword is sheathed at his left side. Below the title it reads; "Died 30th June 1785 aged 102 said to be the oldest general in Europe - Sketch'd from life at the sale of Dr. Johnsons books Feb'y 18, 1785 where the gen.l was reading a book he had purchas'd without spectacles - In 1706 he had an ensigns commission in the Guards & remember'd to have shot snipes in Conduit mead where Conduit Street now stands."
Erroneously gives Oglethorpe's age at death as 102.
