This photograph was procured by John Barclay's great grandson, William Barclay Lex, an hereditary member of the Pennsylvania Society of the Cincinnati, and is a reproduction of a lithograph of John Barclay's portrait found among old documents of the National Bank of Northern Liberties in Philadelphia, which was organized by John Barclay, who was its first president. Upon making the gift of the photographic reproduction to the Society in 1965, William Barclay Lex indicated that the lithograph is the only known likeness of his great grandfather.
Museum #1185. Case file contains information on the family and this gift. For a time, this photograph was framed and hung in the Pennsylvania Room at Anderson House. The photo was removed from the frame for preservation in the vault.
