Note
Anderson writes to his brother-in-law Latham to update him on family news as well as request money in December or January "to go to New Orleans or at that time get married."
Anderson mentions a mysterious letter received from his sister Maria, Latham's wife, that his mother tried to keep secret. The contents of this letter are never disclosed but Anderson makes it known that he has read it. He mentions that it gave us the only news of Latham's "party" since they left.
Allen Latham and Larz Anderson I were brothers-in-law by Latham's marriage to Anderson's sister Maria. Latham had been a partner to Larz's father, Richard C. Anderson, during his position as surveyor of land grants to Revolutionary War soldiers in the Northwest.
Alexander Ferguson Anderson collection.
