At foot of list: Such of the above list of deputy surveyors that have or may pass an examination by the principal surveyor of the State line are so approved of / Chs. Dabney for the Superintendant of the State line.
A Charles Dabney, probably this one, served as an officer during the American Revolution in the 2nd Virginia State Regiment. He also served in the Continental Line and was an original member of the Society of the Cincinnati.
