Note
Muhlenberg writes Anderson with news of a Bill that would enable "the Officers & Soldiers of the Virginia Line in Continental establishment to obtain patents for Lands on the West side of the Ohio." He notes that the Bill only narrowly passed in the House and has been neglected until today, with only one day left in the session. He leaves the letter open remarking on other affairs until he hears word that the Bill has passed the Senate but with amendments. He closes saying, "On State affairs of Kentucky, I dare not trust my thoughts to paper... As it now stands [the Bill] tis neither Fish or Flesh. I can not yet get a Copy but Mr. Orr will bring it with him."
Muhlenberg comments on various diplomatic and world affairs news. Saying of relations with Great Britain regarding the Northwest Territory "it now appears beyond a doubt that Great Britain at the time when they were successful against the French, meant to break with us..." He goes on to comment on the state of various European powers including Prussia, Spain, and France. Of the French Revolution he says "... all this combined renders it more than probable that the French Republic will obtain the Freedom and Independence for which They have so nobly fought."
Muhlenberg refers back to his personal land grants and requests of his letter of January 4th saying that Col. Greenup will supply Col. Croghan with the money needed until General Muhlenberg receives funds to reimburse him and that he hopes to see Anderson in the Fall.
Includes original address with postmark and traces of original wax seal.
