Note
Author and lecturer on naval history, Mahan writes about the expression "under weigh" or "way", and the appropriate use of the term "American Revolution." He disagrees with Adams' "condemnation of Washington" for abandoning New York City, arguing that Washington's choice was between abandoning "N.Y. City & Manhattan Island, and the chance that Sir W. Howe would, with his superior forces, repeat his error at Bunker Hill."
