"I had not seen the piece signed Cincinnatus, which you mention, but am sorry the author has assumed so good a name, to [answer?] so unworthy an end."
"The fate of Gen.l Hull's petition was what we fully expected, & the effects which it has produced upon the antifederal junto were foreseen & predicted. If this division should prove to be the end of the business I shall be glad. Surely no country on earth was ever more prosperous & happy under a government than we ...." This may refer to the petition that General William Hull intended to present to Congress in April, 1792, but did not until 1793 -- see Maria Campbell. Revolutionary services and civil life of General William Hull (New York, 1848), pp. 240-247.
