This is a photograph of a portion of a painting by Wilford S. Conrow, which is a mural on the walls of the headquarters of the George Washington Life Ins.Co. in Charleston, W. Va. The original painting is full-figure, but this photograph is only three-quarter length. Washington is standing to the left, in uniform, with left hand on the hilt of his sword, and right hand holding a scroll, symbolic of the future Constitution. The face and head were modeled after the Houdon clay bust at Mount Vernon, and the uniform after one now preserved among Washington's personal effects at the Smithsonian.
This photographic reproduction has been mounted on a matboard with stamped boarder to resemble a frame.
