Note
The governor of the state of Georgia orders Twiggs to "cease & to suspend all hostilities" against the southern tribes of Indians, "except to act on the defencive [sic], until further orders." The Indians had reacted violently to Georgians' encroachment on hunting grounds that the native Americans had deemed theirs; Twiggs had been defending the Georgians with his company of militia. See also MSS 17A in this collection.
Further, a treaty signing will "be held on Tugaloo River, the 15th day of September next."
