George Washington, seated at the left holding his rifle, is inspecting a deer he has killed which is lying on a hoist. A companion hunter stands at his left. Several dead birds and a rabbit lie on the floor at the center. Martha stands inside the doorway at the right carrying a tray with goblets and a pitcher to celebrate the successful hunt. The two Custis children stand at the far right leaning on a large storage chest. Two slaves and three hunting dogs complete the scene.
Centered below the lithograph, between the names of the artist and engraver, it reads: New York. Engraving under superintendance of W. H. Holbrooke.
