Commission issued to Artemas Ward as colonel of the third regiment of militia in the counties of Middlesex and Worcester, Massachusetts-Bay, October 3, 1759
On verso: “Province of the Mass Bay February 14, 1760. Artemas Ward Esqr. upon the within appointment took the oaths appointed to be taken by act of Parliament instead of the oaths of allegiance & supremacy. He took the oath of abjuration & the oath prescribed in the Act of this Government prohibiting the taking of the neighbouring governments bills in this ... Coram Richd Cutt Wm Brattle both of His Majestys Council."
With paper seal attached.
