Note
A long letter encouraging his son, then a prisoner, whose letter dated Nov. 21, 1778 notifying his family of his circumstances had been received.
"Your saying that an exchange of prisoners was often talkt of among you it as [sic] been frequently discoursed of here ...."
"I have been fortunate enough to procure an order or draft on Mr. James Langton of New York to supply you with cash to the amount of 15 guineas. Major Joseph Wells as [sic] been so exceeding kind to send you 5 guineas part of the above draft.... Mr. James Laysdon and Edward Lamb are both well .... The same week I received your letter I received one from George [i.e. James's' borther?] who informs he was well."
Both the addressee and his brother were original members of the Maryland Society of the Cincinnati
