Docketed on conjugate blank leaf: "Cash borrowed to send into Canada and repaid."
Record of the repayment of notes to citizens of New York for cash borrowed in General Philip Schuyler's name in order to finance the expedition to Canada organized by him in 1775.
In columns: date (July 4-16, 1776), names of 36 prominent New Yorkers, including Van Buren, Schuyler, etc., the amount of each loan, the amount paid--totaling 1973 pounds 11 shillings 5 pence.
Varick was captain in the 1st New York Regiment & military secretary to General Schuyler; later served as aide to Benedict Arnold & then Washington's recording secretary to be responsible for the Continental Army's records.
