Note
Washington is shown in the center of the cold, winter scene of the encampment, introducing a group of congressmen on his right, to a group of his troops, who have come out of a log house to the right on the picture. Only the officers have uniforms and these are in disrepair, and the remaining troups look sickly, and are poorly clothed. One officer at the rear is waving a flag with the words "Don't tread on me" at the bottom.
