Note
Scene of Dr. Thomas Walker's house in Chapel Hill as it appeared in 1765, the year it was built. This house still stands today. A person sits on the steps to the front porch and another woman, carrying a parasol, and a child are seen at play on the front lawn. Rectangle with curved corners at the top. Is composed in an artists shadow frame and mat border 6/16. The original may have been a wood cut engraving.
Dr. Thomas Walker was a doctor, but was better known as an explorer and land speculator. He served with George Washington during the French and Indian War and his first wife was George Washington's second cousin. In many ways, his exploration to the west and his friendship with Jefferson, set the stage for the Louisiana Purchase and the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
