Lafayette and Washington stand talking in the snow outside the encampment at Valley Forge. A group of soldiers are huddled around a campfire in the lower right.

This copy of the engraving appears in Schroeder's Life and Times of Washington, Vol. I, between pages 686 & 687, as published by Johnson, Fry & Company in 1857..
This copy of the engraving was removed from its frame and is preserved in the P&E files in the vault. It was originally accessioned as Museum #789.
This copy of the engraving was a gift of Thomas Gerry Townsend Phillps of the Massachusetts Society. Regarding the black and white copy (Martin, Johnson & Co.):
This copy of the engraving appears in Schroeder's Life and Times of Washington, Vol. I, between pages 686 & 687, as published by Martin & Johnson & Co., in 1857.
The 2 engravings and titles are identical. Only the letters regarding the recognition of the artist and engraver and the copyrights are different.
