Note
Turner, the assistant secretary general of the Society of the Cincinnati describes how to acquire and issue membership diplomas. The recipient of the letter, Nicholas Gilman, who had served as a captain in the Continental Army and was a senator from New Hampshire, was an original member of the New Hampshire branch of the Society.
