Note
An illustration of the Battle of Saratoga on October 7 and 8, 1777, showing Benedict Arnold in the center with Daniel Morgan's corp firing on, and wounding General Simon Fraser of the British army under General John Burgoyone. The battle on October 8 took place at the Great Redoubt as Fraser was being buried. Major General Horatio Gates is shown on the "sidelines" since he did not personally participate in either battle. The poster illustration carries written notes about the battles and the participants. The title, Saratoga, appears at the top of the poster and in the lower left it reads: "Being the place where American forces in 1777 met and defeated a veteran British army from Canada in one of the significant battles of world history. Long called the 'Turning Point of the Revolution,' Saragoga restored the confidence of Americans in their own military abilities and brought recognition and assistance from France, thus making possible the final victory at Yorktown four years later." In the lower right, it reads: "Saratoga National Historical Park, New York. National Park Service U. S. Department of Interior." Below is the illustrator's signature. Below the poster's border along the bottom on the right, it reads: "For sale by the Superintendent of Documents. U. S. Government Printing Office, Washington, DC 20402. Stock Number 024-005-00587-1 *GPO: 1976-587-200/5."
