Decree authorizing subjects of the Spanish Crown in its colonies to attack British trade. It was issued soon after Charles III had secretly signed the Treaty of Aranjuez bringing Spain into the revolutionary war to assist France in return for French aid in recapturing Gibraltar. During the war Spanish forces operating from New Orleans, succeeded in taking Pensacola and reconquering Florida, which was later formally restored to Spain
