Note
Extract from general orders issued by Gen. Anthony Wayne. The text describes a fight at the “Old Snider House” two days earlier, in which a small American force of dragoons routed a British detachment of superior numbers. “The Enemy flying with such precipitation to their boats as to escape the keen cutting swords of their brave pursuers. Genl Wayne requests Mr. Snider and those five Worth Dragoons to accept his best thanks for their fortitude & gallant conduct in defeating five times their numbers altho attacked by surprise.”
