Note
A poster advertising an exhibition entitled: Ralph Earl: The face of the young republic. In the center is a print of Ralph Earl's portrait of Oliver Ellsworth and Abagail Wolcott Ellsworth, 1792. The Ellsworths are seated in the library of their home, in formal dress, on either side of a window showing another grand home with white and red paddock fencing across the road. Oliver Ellsworth is holding a rolled sheet from the U. S. Constitution in his left hand. The poster acknowledges that the portrait was a gift to the Wadsworth Atheneum from the Ellsworth heirs in 1901. At the bottom of the poster are the dates of the exhibition in Washington, DC, Hartford, Connecticut, and Fort Worth, Texas during 1991-92. The poster also recognizes four grants that supported the exhibition.
