Depicts Martha Washington greeting her guests at tea in a room in the President's house in New York. The event pictured was supposed to have taken place on 1 January 1790, but the artist took the liberty of including some guests who probably were not present on that day.
This copy does not have a printed title or printed names of the artist nor engraver. It only has pencil signatures of the artist and engraver. Therefore, it may be a "avant la lettre" copy of the engraging.
