A copy of a certificate containing the commission of Washington as General and Commander in Chief of the army of the United Colonies. The commission has been inscribed onto a cerificate with an engraved ornate frame of patriotic symbols and Roman columns. The commission is signed by John Hancock, President (of the Continental Congress), dated Philidelphia, June 19th, 1775.
This fac-similie copy has been reprinted with an advertising message, contained in a box inside the frame of the commission at the center bottom, indicating that the copy is presented by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. To the left of the advertising box is written: "I certify this is a perfect fac-similie of the original document now on deposit in the Patent Office at Washington, D.C., C. Delano, Secretary of the Interior." Below the advertising box it reads: "Anyone sending $1 to the Continental Publishing Co. Philadelphia, Pa. will receive post paid in a rolled paper case a copy of this document on steel plate paper with no advertising card on it."
