Apparently official records of the Quartermaster General's Department, kept by Quartermaster General Timothy Pickering; chronicling the purchases and sales, including waggons, boats, camp equipage, tools, and livestock; also contains the payments made to waggoners, artisans, and other contractors of that dept. and the general and staff depts. of the army for salaries, services and supplies rendered, etc
Covers Nov. 10th 1782 at Newburgh until Apr. 7th 1784 when it resumes in New York City, closing there on May 12th 1786; timespan coincides with the construction of the final winter encampment of Washington's main army at New Windsor cantonment and Newburgh; later part shows records relating the supplies for the use of the encamped army & sales of war materials with the dissolution of the army after peace was declared in 1783
Each entry is dated, records the name of the creditor or debtor, the details of the transaction and contains marginal numerical entries
