"An echo of a servants' hall in the eighteenth century will be heard below. The "Rules and Orders" given in facsimile are still preserved on their original 4 feet by 3 freet framed board at Hatchlands, the Surrey house ... in which for many years they were displayed for the disciplining of the staff. The author of the rules is unknown. But Hatchlands was built by Admiral Boscawen, in 1759 out of prize money; so the theory that there is a quarter-deck air about them may, perhaps, hold water."
A list of 15 rules governing behavoir and decorum at the table with monetary fines assigned for each offence.
