Note
Paintings of naval battle scenes. Below each painting a title and a few lines of historical information. The artist's name has been added in the lower right hand corner of each print. The letters below the top print are as follows: Battle of Fort Moultrie. "The unsuccessful attack on the Fort on Sullivan's Island the 28th. of June 1776." The letters below the lower print are as follows: The British Fleet, 29th. June 1776. Return of Lieutenant Milligan with Flag of the Actaeon. "The morning after the engagement on Sullivan's Island. The ships of war having retired a few miles below the Fort are on a keel repairing damages and particularly stopping shot holes between wind and water etc. Dispatch boats and other vessels are seen a few miles off passing and repassing between the fleet and Sir H. Clinton's army on Long Island to the east of Sullivan's Island."

South Carolina Regiment led by Moultrie. The orginals are without letters nor the signature of the artist. A photographic reproduction of the original watercolors is catalogued P&E L1993.792.
