Tabulated returns of the men & horses of the 9 companies of Ross's (formerly Wynne's) Regiment; each of the 165 men, or 166 (including Simeon Armstrong 'dead') listed giving height, service and age, and also their mounts.
This regiment became the Fifth (or Royal Irish) Regiment of Dragoons in 1751, disbanded 1799, re-raised in 1858.

Hamilton probably the 2nd Baron Boyne, who succeeded his grandfather in 1723.
The letter addresses such issues as the "cheques" due to the Muster Master General's office "hear is a pattentee imployment and will therefore insist on his fees"; orders relating to invalids, not all those who had served in Flanders, but "such as ar not able to serve at home, and there ar none such in the Regiment"; the costs of officers accoutrements, "wee have two years arrears due to us at Xmas and such of the officers yt have not had them advanced may assine them for there clothes and accoutriments."
