Washington, on horseback lifts his hat with his right hand to ladies and children who are scattering flowers in his path as he and a group of officers pass under an archway, anchored with columns and flags and covered with flowers; displaying a banner which reads: "The hero who defended the mothers will protect the daughters. Decem. 26, 1776."
