Imprint inferred from similar engravings on leaves 102 and 103 in the present collection of items relating to Admiral Byng.
The Gloire was part of the 1747 convoy escorting La Jonquière to his new post as governor general of New France. That convoy was overtaken by a British squadron under then vice-admiral Anson and Peter Warren.
