The Jason had been taken by Capt. George Edgcumbe as a prize early in his career under the command of Anson; however the Lancaster sailed under his command during the attempt to rescue Minorca.
Both ships, then under the command of De la Jonquiere de la Pommarede, had been part of the convoy that faced then vice-admiral Anson in 1747. See also illustrations of the Gloire (on leaf 101r of this present volume), which was in the same convoy -- see E. H. Jenkins, A history of the French navy, p. 114.
On leaf 93r of The Tragedy of Admiral Byng, 1756-1757
