Sailing vessels in battle. Below the title it reads: The Battle of the Nile, August 1st 1798. A brilliant attack at dusk led by Rear Admiral Horatio Nelson caught the French fleet anchored in Aboukir Bay near the mouth of the Nile. The view shows the beginning of the action from Aboukir Point at the western end of the bay, looking eastward along the anchored French line. Leading the British fleet is Goliath, which has passed between Le Guerrier and her marker buoy to engage her undefended side. Coming up behind are Zealous and Orion. By the following morning, only two French ships of the line from a fleet of thirteen had escaped destruction or capture. The decisive victory led Napoleon to abandon his aspirations for the conquest of Egypt and the Orient. Limited to 400 numbered and signed copies."
