Imprint date from pencilled notation of copy 2 and from The age of Horace Walpole in caricature (1973).
Two Frenchmen point to the British lion's hind paws, labelled Nova Scotia and Oswego; one says to the other, "And de oter limbs too. When Nova Scotia be ours, den New York and all de Continent beware." The lion's front right paw, labelled Minorca, is no longer attached to its leg. Nearby, the French cock, holding the British flag in its beak, says "Ill tear you in pieces." At right, members of Parliament worry that the American colonies may now be in danger of French dominion. Byng, at center left, points to the odds against him saying, "Arithmetic will plainly shew/ 'Twas wrong in B--g to fight.
