Note
Hand colored engraving shows the difference between (at right) the heroic age of British arms (Drake, Walsingham and Burleigh) and at left the present (Byng, a woman with "orders a fortnight old" in her pocket selling Newcastle salmon and a man leaning on sacks of French corks and New Castle "Cole")
At lower left, a gibbet with three "dogs", probably Byng, Anson, and Newcastle
"Merit" beneath Drake, Walsingham and Burleigh is represented by a crown; beneath Byng and Newcastle, by a hangman's noose, a rifle, and broken sword.
On leaf 47v of The Tragedy of Admiral Byng, 1756-1757
