Note
Three-quarter figure, to the left, standing in uniform, with partial coat of armor. His helmet rests on top of a map on a rock at the lower left. Amherst holds a spyglass with his left hand on the rock and his right elbow rests on his left hand with his right hand on his chin. In the background are numerous boats carrying soldiers up the river. Below the title it reads: "From the original of Sir Joshua Reynolds in the collection of the right Hon.ble the Earl Amherst."
