This engraver took great liberty with the Martin portrait #1. The back of the chair is ornamented. However, the major element in the Martin portrait, is the positioning of Franklin's right hand against his neck with his thumb against his chin. This engraver has chosen to draw the right hand on the table and has filled in the neckline with a vest. Also, in the original Martin, there is a statue of Issac Newton in the left corner. In this engraving, Newton is replaced with a drapery.
Benjamin Franklin was made an honorary member of the Society of the Cincinnati from the state of Pennsylvania in 1789.
