Note
Head and shoulders, torso to the front, head to the left. Rectangle. The title is a facsimile signature.
It would appear that the Gilbs portrait that was used by Hall for this engraving is after Trumbull's "Jay Type" portrait of Hamilton.

This same engraving is published in the Society of the Cincinnati's Portraits of the Presidents General of the Order of the Cincinnati (call no. 369.131 R475, 1887) with the exception that the copy in this book acknowledges the publisher, "N.Y. D. Appleton & Co." at the bottom of the sheet.
Alexander Hamilton was an original member of the Society of the Cincinnati from the state of New York and the second President General of the General Society.

A framed copy of this same engraving, a part of a gift from Lester A. Pratt, was deaccessioned (P&E L1961.858.2) in 2007 due to a serious mold problem.
