Three-quarter portrait of Saunders, who stands looking to his right. Probably engraved after either the Reynolds portrait or the Brompton portrait of Saunders.
When Byng and West were recalled from Minorca, Sir Edward Hawke and Charles Saunders superseded them. When Hawke returned to England, Saunders became commander-in-chief in the Mediterranean.
Printed ca. 1770, when Saunders became lietenant general of marines and admiral the same year.
On leaf 275r of The Tragedy of Admiral Byng, 1756-1757
