Signed in type at foot of p. 2: Yours to serve you in all honesty Isaac Barclay. The otherwise unidentified author, who purports to be in his 66th year, urges Byng not to "proceed in the silly, blundering, seditious way of writing more" but to "send out books to prove, that you acted as as a gallant Englishman, and as a good admiral," and to "say no more" until his trial.
Probably dates from late 1756
The author, who characterizes himself as "a plain man of real honesty, and some common sense" speaks for some of the many who became involved in the political turmoil following Byng's return to London in July. The Fox government fell in mid-November.
Redriff was a section of London located near the Southwark shipbuilding area.
