Note
The engraver may rather have been Alfred Clarence Alais, but E. Benezit suggests that he flourished 60 years later.
Bust with torso in profile turned to his right, head turned slightly toward the center; in his left hand he holds leaves of paper, probably intended to represent some of his writings.
The likeness appears on the title page to a reprint of some of his works: The trial of the witnesses -- On the conversion of St. Paul -- On the propagation of the Gospel. The likeness appears to be after the painting by Benjamin West.
Lord Lyttleton sat on the king's council that received the report of the 12 judges relating to the sentence of Admiral Byng -- see leaf 191r in The Tragedy.
