Three-quarter portrait of Dorset, standing, torso turned slightly to his right, face turned toward the center. Arms of the Order of the Garter shown in upper right-hand corner of the portrait, and its insignia on his left arm, his hand clasping his waist. His right hand holds his hat at hip level.
The Duke of Dorset sat on the King's council at its meeting on 16 Feb. 1757 -- see page 129 of The Trial (on leaf 191r of The Tragedy of Admiral Byng, 1756-1757) for a list of those present to receive the report of the 12 judges.
