Contents: [1]. A.L.S. Thomas Hartwell, 6 Nov. 1770, concerning details for replacement of the 6 guns of the Otter "thrown overboard for the safety of the sloop." -- [2]. D.S. John Archer, 18 May 1771, "List of instruments, tools & c. as is necessary to be provided on the spot, preparatory to beginning the works for enclosing his Majesty's dockyard at Portsmouth." The list includes crow-bars, levels, handspikes, turfing irons, water-levels, etc. --[3]. A.L.S. John Boddington, 22 May 1771, referring to the list authorising the release of Captain Archer's requirements form the stores at Portsmouth -- [4]. A.L.S. John Bullock, 24 May 1771, ordering the supply of the established number of guns to "his Majesty's ships the Barfleur, Centaur, Egmont, Lenox, Royal Oak, Terrible, Asia, Prudent and Worcester being apointed to do the duty of guardships at Partsmouth." He also orders that they should be supplied with "Fifty stand of small arms" and an appropriate supply of powder. -- [5]. A.L.S. Charles Lennox, from Whitehall, 5 July 1784, asking for "your opinion of the method best to be adopted for the preservation of guns whether by paint or by lacquer as also for preserving their bores from rust."
