This engraving may be after the portrait painted by Richard Jennys who worked in New England from 1783-1799. There also are portraits of Mayhew by Copley and Greenwood.
Mayhew was a congregational preacher in Boston and was part of the religious enlightenment movement in America. Because he preached the unity of the trinity, he has been characterized as the Father of the Unitarians in America.
