The Golden Head, Leicester Square was the site of Hogarth's home from 1733-1764; when his widow died in 1769, the gallery still existed under that name. The association with Hogarth probably lasted into the next decade when this mezzotint appeared.

Harcourt sat on the privy council of George II. See page 129 of The Trial (on leaf 191r of The Tragedy of Admiral Byng, 1756-1757) for a list of those present to receive the report of the 12 judges who sentenced Byng.
