The recipient of the $40 may have been either Elizabeth Kiersted Denniston (1769-1861), widow of Daniel Denniston (1758-1824), or Margaret Kernaghan Denniston (1749-1841), widow of George Denniston. Both men were officers of the Continental Army.
Payments represent support offered widows of officers.
