An official dispatch announcing the success of Richelieu and La Galissonière over Byng at Minorca, though the latter is not mentioned by name.
At the foot of p. [2], In a different hand: Enregistre au courolle de la Marine a Brest, Le vingt trois juillet mil sept cent cinquante six. [Chogues?] Gilles Hocquart, the probable addressee, had been in charge of Brest, the premier military port of France since 1749 and had warned of the possibility of an English attack. Toussaint Hocquart, the other possible addressee, had been involved in conflicts with Boscawen in 1744 and 1747 before the 1755 encounter that included Byng.
