On leaf 158v of The Tragedy of Admiral Byng, 1756-1757
Bust facing slightly to his right, within oval border
Hawke, who superseded Byng as vice admiral of the Mediterranean fleet in 1756, arrived too late to relieve Minorca. Byng's testimony regarding his orders to strike his flag and surrender his fleet to Hawke appear on the facing page (leaf 159) of The Tragedy. The text appeared on p. 111 of the official account of the Trial.
