Satirical scene of group of redcoats crossing a shallow stream; commanding officer takes a piggy back ride across on the shoulders of one of his men, while from his pocket pokes a pamphlet entitled "An essay on Alexander passing the granicus." One of his officers is carried across a stream by a strong rural woman. In the lower left is a dog crossing the brook with a puppy in his mouth. Two women gossip at a fence across the brook while the troop stand on the shore waiting to cross.
Below the title it reads: "London, Printed for J.n Smith No. 35 Cheapside, & Rob.t Sayer, No. 53 Fleet Street, as the Act directs 25 Jan.y 1772."
Collet was known for his humorous pictures, based on the style of Hogarth.
