An etching of a battle scene of the French armies arriving to battle the British along the shore of Lake Champlain. Some are in battle formation on the shore while others are arriving by boat from ships on the lake. A fort is in the background. Below the title at the bottom is the following description: aux ordres du Chevalier de Ternay, Captaine de Vaissaux de sa Majeste tres Chretienne, le quel a sous son commandement les Vaissaux de Guerre la Robuste et l'Eveille, la fregate, la licorne et la flute, la garonne avec quelque troupes de debarquement afait une descente dans l'Isle de Terre Neuve du cote de St. Jean ou il s'est empare d'un Vaissaux de guerre Anglois ainsi que de plusiers Navire et Batiment de Peehe qu'il avoit detruit."
Below the description is reads: "A Paris chez Basset rue S. Jacques a S.e Genevieve." This probably refers to Andre Basset l'ame, an engraver and editor in Paris during the late 18th and early 19th century.
Title above the picture is a mirror image reading: View de la descente des Francois a l'Isle de Terre Neuve. To the right of this mirror image title is "No. 38." This reverse title suggests that this etching was published in the 18th century and was intended to be projected by lantern which explains the reversal of the title and picture.
First published in 1758 under title: Représentation du fue d'artifice." which was issued in honor of the French victory at Lake Champlain.
