Cover title.
In a number of different hands but the majority appears to be handwriting of Lt. Issac Hubbell, Adjutant of Lamb's Artillery Regiment (later 2nd Artillery Regiment); his ownership signature on back cover.
"Signal for an alarm." which established that "whenever the enemy appears in force on Hudsons River three of the heaviest cannon at West point will be fired five minutes after each other ... answered by a like number at New Windsor ... and the signal closed by the discharges of three cannon at the Artillery Park at Fish Kills ..."--p. [1]
Includes establishing the apportionment of field artillery among the infantry regiments, setting forth in detail the form for muster rolls and other reports, and presenting complicated court martial decisions; exhortations to duty by General McDugall, Gates and Washington as the headquarters orders mix with regimental orders.
Several acts of Congress are copied, notably the half-pay pension resolution for which Washington campaigned vigorously, and the promise to pay for private horses killed in battle.
Bound in leather backed stiff boards.
A few pages are loose & 1 or 2 might be missing; two gaps, probably intentional, covering 23 April to 7 May and 11 July to 11 August, on which date the portion from White Plains where the main army was encamped began.
