"I have without mentioning you ...wrote to the Mayor of Glocester acquainting him [with] that Complaint having been made to the Duke [of Cumberland, commander of the army] of [the] great offense given by the officers of [Jordans?] while at Glocester. H.R.H. has reprimanded them, which has produced from them a Memorial, a copy of which I enclos'd by H.R.H.'s order who [desir'd?] he would enquire and inform me of the Truth of the affair."
Fox, at the time, was secretary of state for the Southern Department; Selwyn was MP for the city of Gloucester.
